Seminar on Interpretation and Translation [7月 19,2011 ]

In this June we held a seminar on interpretation and translation for the students of the Practical Japanese Course (three classes in all). Ms. Maki Aoe, the instructor, gave us an interesting talk about unexpected happenings at the scenes of interpretation, as well as technical instructions of it. In the third and last class, students did practice of simultaneous interpretation using the university’s room for its exclusive purpose. Through that practice they seemed to realize minute differences between Japanese and their mother tongue which could be overlooked in their usual life. We hope that some of them will become professional interpreters in the future with this seminar as a start.
