Visit to Buddhist Image Studio [7月 21,2011 ]
On July 5 the students of the Practical Japanese Course visited a Buddhist image studio at Ostu city of Shiga prefecture. First we saw a big half-carved statue in Mr. Watanabe Seizan’s atelier. He gave us a talk about not so well known facts and history of Buddhist image making, such as what kinds of timbers were used, and how to make a big size statue. Thanks to this study tour, we are probably able to appreciate Buddhist images from a new point of view now.
