Visit to Buddhist Sculpture Studio [7月 09,2012 ]
On July 3 the students of the Practical Japanese Course visited a Buddhist sculpture studio at Ostu city of Shiga prefecture.
Mr. Watanabe Seizan, the Buddhist sculptor of the studio, and his apprentices gave us a very interesting talk about the sculpture production deeply related to the Japanese geographical and historical features. In that respect it was an appropriate study tour to the students learning about Japanese culture for their course work.
From the staff members’ explanations we knew a quite surprising fact that the process similar to the manufacture had been already established in the field of the Buddhist sculpture production of the Heian period.
